Fees are reviewed each month and adjusted for exchange rate fluctuations. Your card will be charged the fees applicable when your application is received.
The fee includes the cost of sending your new passport and documents by ordinary mail with the US Postal Service. However, this is not recommended, especially if we are to return vital documents. There are alternatives to ordinary mail, which allow you to track delivery of your new passport:
- If you wish to have your new passport sent to you by Federal Express, you will need to pay an additional USD15 (for up to four passports to the one address).
- If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid letter-sized envelope with the courier company of your choice, but we have found Federal Express to be the most reliable.
If you lodge your application in person, you may pay with cash or by cheque. If you lodge your application by mail with the Embassy in Washington or the Consulates-General in New York or Los Angeles, you may pay by cheque or by Visa or Mastercard. Do not send cash through the mail!
If you mail your application and supporting documents to the Embassy in Washington DC, send a cheque made payable to the Cashier, Embassy of Australia. If you are sending a cheque to one of our Consulates-General, please make it payable to the Australian Consulate-General. Please note that the Consulate-General in Honolulu does not accept personal cheques. Make sure your envelope is marked for the attention of the Passports Office, so it doesn't go astray.
The Embassy in Washington, the Consulate-General in New York and the Consulate-General in Los Angeles are the only offices where you may pay with your Visa or Mastercard. If you are paying by either of these accepted credit cards, please complete and sign the authority, and submit it with your application.
* Immediate Travel : Priority Processing Fee

If you are eligible for our expedited service, please note that your application fee must be paid with cash, cashier's cheque or money order, or by Visa and Mastercard if you are lodging in Washington, New York or Los Angeles. You cannot pay the fee by personal cheque. Do not sent cash through the mail. Clearly mark the envelope if priority processing is required.
